What is your social media strategy?

Do you have a plan?

Do you ever find yourself spending far too much time on social media and not actually getting anywhere?

This week we are talking all about social media strategy.

Covering 3 main topics:

– Which platform should I be on?
– How often should I be posting?
– What should I be posting?

Which platform should you be on?

I’m a firm believer that you can’t do them ALL well, unless you have a full social media team, or someone to implement for you.
Work out where your target market is hanging out AND where you enjoy hanging out. Both are important.
There is no point spending all of your time on a platform if your market isn’t there… but there also no point promising yourself that you will be HUGE on a platform like LinkedIn, if you hate using the platform.

You don’t have to put all your eggs in one basket. Pick 2 or 3 platforms and build a big following there… but you really can’t be everywhere (well, not going it well) all at the same time.

How often should I be posting?

This all depends on what you are trying to achieve.
With YouTube for example, most people are posting once a week, and that works well for content… but if you listen to the wise words of Casey Neistat and you want to create a big following on YouTube, then he suggests posting daily.
Now posting videos daily isn’t sustainable for most… but there is definitely something to it. He went from 500,000 subscribers to 4 million subscribers in the past 18 months, and all the growth was due to starting his daily vlog.
The same applies for all social media platforms. Sure, I have no doubt someone out there has worked out the exact “right” number to keep the algorithms happy, but go with what works for you.
A couple of times a day is better than once, and once is better than nothing.
Look at what you are currently doing and make a plan to increase it slightly.
There is no point promising yourself that you will post 10 times a day… if you currently aren’t posting at all.

Consistency is better than burn out though. Find something that will work for you.

What should I be posting?

There are 3 main types of content that you can post on social media.
– Entertain
– Inspires
– Educates

When you are posting, ask yourself… does your content fit into one of these categories? Does your audience really want to see it?

Challenge:
Tell me, which platform are you going to be focusing your effort on, and how often are you committing to posting?
