Now that we’ve taken the time to reflect and review, it’s time to set some goals moving forward (if you have’t looked at the year that was first, you really should. Check out the 2018 review post here)
Things you might want to consider:
Word of the year.
For the last couple of years, I like to set a word that reminds me of my intention and direction for the year. While the specific goals may change and morph depending on the situation, the word is there to remind me of my overall desire for the year.
I last I picked the word “Choice”. It was there to remind me that I always have a choice. A choice in how I spend my time. A choice in how I fuel my body. A choice in my attitude and emotional response to situations.
For 2019 my world will be “Simplify”.
It is there to guide all areas of my life.
With another baby on the way (baby number 4 is due in March) and while still caring full time for baby number 3) who is almost 10 months at time of writing) there is a lot going on.
Simplify is there to remind me that it is ok to embrace the easy way of doing things.
To simplify my business, my processes, my systems, even the number of products and services on offer.
To simplify my surroundings, removing excess clutter.
To simplify my attitude towards looking after me. Self care doesn’t have to be hard, or even long.
Do you pick a word for the year? Have you considered one for 2019?
Set a clear financial goal.
For the first 9 months of 2018, I didn’t really have a clear financial goal. I took maternity leave for 18 weeks, which definitely made an impact, but even for the time when I was working, I wasn’t working towards a specific number.
For the last 3 months of 2018, I set a clear goal, created a tracker and worked out what I would need to do to achieve that.
As a result, I received as much during the last 3 months of 2018, and I did during the first 9 months. Yes… I earned as much in the last 90 days as I did for the whole of the year.
So, for 2019 I’ve set a clear financial target. I’ve also set a stretch goal and a super stretch goal. The stretch goals feels a little uncomfortable, and honestly, the super stretch goals seems impossible. But it is there to make me think “What if I did make that?”. To open my thinking to consider options that I might not normally consider.
Have you set a clear financial goal for the next year?
Reflect on your figures from this year. Consider what you are selling and how you can scale. Then set a series of goals, a realistic goal, a stretch goal and a super stretch goal.
Consider other goals
Now is the time to add all those other bits.
Want to write your own book?
Want to blog weekly?
Want to be more consistent on social media?
Take some time to make a clear list of goals.
BUT
I want you to be really specific.
Rather than just “consistent on social media”, think about what that means to you.
Do you want to be posting once a day, once a week… once a month even?
Do you want to be on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest? Just one of them? All of them?
Without being specific, you’ll never know if you’ve actually reached your goal. So rather than just “consistent on social media”, write something like “I want to post on Facebook and Instagram at least 5 times a week”.
Then use this process for each and every goal.
Rather than “write a book”, think about how long you want the book to be, when you want it to be ready by, and what you want the result to be. Eg “I will have finished writing 50,000 words by June 2019, so it can be edited and then self published”
