Yup, I know it might seem silly that we’re not talking about building a membership site, when that’s what you want to do, but building a membership site takes A LOT of work… especially if you are building a library of content to begin with.
But I see a lot of people put hours of work into something, only to find that it doesn’t sell, or that their market really isn’t interested in that option. It seems crazy to put so much hard work and effort into building your site, if you’ve got no-one to sell it to.
So, today, take some time to start to think about building your list.
(If you already have a list of people who are interested in your stuff, woohoo, well done. You can still take a moment to reach out to them, let them know that you are thinking of building a site, and getting them to let you know if they love the idea).
I challenge you to do 2 things:
1. Create a coming soon page
Now that you have a really clear idea of what you are going to offer and who you are going to offer it to, you can build a coming soon page, with an count-down clock, or even just a big coming soon banner. You can explain a little bit about the site, the problems it solves, the outcomes it will provide and who it is going to help.
Make sure you include an opt-in box that allows people to register for the wait list.
This allows you to build a list of people who want to hear more about your membership site, to see if there is some interest. It also allows you to get comfortable clearly verbalising what your site will be and who it will help.
2.Create an opt-in that directly relates to your membership site.
Create a piece of content that directly relates to the content that you are thinking of putting into your membership site. For example: You might create a mini course, as an example of the types of courses they can get inside the site.
Or you could release a workbook or a series of videos.
Make sure you use the same kind of content that you are going to include inside the site. You are giving them an opportunity to try the kind of things that they’ll get in the future.
This also gives you an opportunity to see if it works… if you don’t get great uptake for your opt-in, then maybe you need to revisit the kind of content that you want to include inside your membership site.
