Today’s video is very honest…
I spent the weekend at ProBlogger, and while I had an amazing time it also taught me a lot about myself.
The truth is, I spent a lot of time feeling like I wasn’t enough.
Like I wasn’t a big enough speaker.
Like I was among people who were a long way ahead of me.
Like I was the only one who didn’t belong.
Until one of the other speakers mentioned the same thing…
And I realised that I wasn’t the only one… that we all feel this way at some point.
And so today, I wanted to be really honest with you.
And tell you that it’s all ok.
That there isn’t some secret, but that you just have to put yourself out there.
You are enough.
You really are.
Great video Sam. You got it perfectly – we all feel that way – in fact I felt it at my own conference numerous times.
It is a great reminder that we all feel it and it comes back again and again over the years.
One thing I’d say to you is I’m really glad you were there. I just was digging into attendee survey results and you had some raving reviews – really… very positive. So Despite the feelings you had (and maybe even partly because you had the feelings and that made you relatable) you did a great job!
Thanks for being a part of the event.
Thanks Darren,
I loved the event and was honored that you asked me to run workshops there.
It was interesting to watch my own mindset across the weekend though, it taught me a lot about myself.
You are awesome Sam – and you are DEFINITELY enough!! Thanks for your open and honest video x
Thanks Lyndall, honesty was a little scary this time.
Hey Sam,
Great video and I can totally relate to the roller coaster of emotions you had through ProBlogger, in fact I do exactly the same! Not just with attending Problogger (as a travel blogger) but I also go through this with alot of conferences/workshops that I attend and speak at and even when I’m networking at events.
Dan Norris also summed it up well, identifying the creator and the hater, and recognising when the hater is feeding the self-doubt and ‘Am I enough’ voice within you.
While I wasn’t fortunate enough to hear one of your presentations, it was great to meet you at ProBlogger and I’ll look forward to attending one of your workshops/presentations in the future.
Awesome work on putting yourself out there! You’ve inspired me to do the same! ๐
Cheers
Matt
Matt,
You’d make some create vlogs ๐ you’d be great on camera.
I didn’t get to see your presentation, Sam. But I was fortunate enough to meet you at the speaker/team party, and as far as I’m concerned you definitely deserved to be there. In the brief time I got to chat to you I got a sense of not only your expertise but also your passion about sharing that expertise.
And that’s really what ProBlogger is all about.
At the risk of sounding selfish, I don’t care how many followers/likes/subscriptions/stalkers a presenter has. For me it’s all about the individual, and what they’re willing to give to their audience.
And going by what I saw when I met you (and Darren’s comment above), you gave plenty.
In other words, you were more than enough.
Bill.
Hi Sam, loved your video and how true. Sometimes you need other people to shine that light on how you’re feeling – so thanks for doing that! I love love loved your Master Class Workshop by the way, and came away with so much – now if I can just get that course written, maybe I’ll feel like I’m ‘enough’!
