To be honest, I struggled to come up with this list.
I like to think I am an open book.
I am always honest on social media, in the RealLifeBiz group, and to my friends/work buddies.
I am purposely honest, because I think we all spend far too long thinking that we aren’t good enough/productive enough etc, blah blah blah.
We continuously try to live up to other peoples standards, and to have the perfect life that we think we see others having.
Anyway, that’s enough of that rant for now.
So here, 5 things that you might not know about me… in no particular order.
1. I have terrible taste in TV and will binge watch just about anything.
I didn’t watch TV for a long time. Between kids, 2 businesses, a partner, and ex husband and everything else in going on, I just didn’t have time for TV.
I’ve purposely simplified my life and my business a lot over the past 12 months or so, and now I have more spare time on my hands.
I could use that to work through my to-do list, to garden, or countless other productive things, but I do love a good TV binge. Especially if I am sitting with a sleeping baby on my chest.
Feel free to send me your Netflix recommendations, I am always looking for something new to add to my watch list.
2. I’m a bit of a nerd
Ok, so this one isn’t much of a secret, and if you’ve spent any time with me, you may well know this.
In my down time you’ll often find me playing Xbox, particularly Minecraft with the kids.
And if I’m not playing Xbox games, then you’ll often find hubby and I playing board games.
Two that often grace our table are Legendary (a Marvel deck building game. We own countless expansions and have never played the same combination of decks more than once) or Tales of Arabian Nights (like the old choose your own adventure books, but bigger and better).
My nerdiness started young. My parents had an Atari when I was growing up, and I started with games like pong. We moved on to a Sega Mega drive, and I even had my own computer in my bedroom by the time I was 13 (I was never going to be a “cool kid”, was I?! )
3. I’m not always motivated to work
In fact, I rarely feel motivated to work.
I’m not one of those people who’s doing what they love, or what they always dreamed of doing.
I kinda fell into the world of course creation by accident (It’s a long story, but I’ll bore you with it one time if you really want.)
But, once I fell in, I found that I have natural flair for facilitation and delivery, and all the skills needed to build and develop courses quickly, and well… so here I am.
This means that I’ve become really good at learning how to be productive and focused. I’m full of tips, tricks and hacks. Because I’d much rather be productive with the time that I do work, and take the rest of the day off… than faff around at the computer for 8 hours and still not feel like I really got anywhere.
4. I don’t know what I want to do when I grow up
I guess this is an expansion on the point before.
While I love working for myself, and I’m good at what I do, I didn’t start this business because I’d found my “why”.
This often gives me the feeling that I don’t know what I want to be when I “grow up” (I’ll put it in air quotes because I honestly don’t think that some people really do grow up… my dad is a prime example of this)
What does this mean?
Simply, that I don’t think I’ll be doing this forever. And I have no idea what I would do next.
But don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere any time soon, you are stuck with me for now.
5. I have no desire to grow or expand
No matter the business (this, or another one after it), I have no desire to build a giant empire, or a huge company.
I don’t want offices. I don’t want staff. I don’t want to work 9-5.
A big part of why I do what I do, is because I love working for myself.
I like the flexibility, I like the choice, I working around my life and my kids.
Don’t get me wrong… I work HARD. It’s not all about time off, or lazy days in the sun. It often means that I am working early in the morning before people get up, or in the evening after I have put all the kids to bed.
I often work with a baby laying by my feet, or while rocking the bouncer with one foot, trying to keep him asleep… but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I’ve done long hours working for someone else. I’ve done shift work. I’ve done extended trade, working late nights, over nights and weekends, I’ve done 60 hour weeks… and I’m done. If I’m going to do any of that now, I’m going to do it because I want to, or because it suits me… not because someone else tells me that I have to.
So there you go… that’s a little about me.
Maybe you learnt something new… or maybe you knew it all already.
What about you? What don’t we know about you?
