I have sooooooo much to do…
Overwhelm… that feeling that you have so much on your plate, so much going on in your head, a list as long as your arm and you just don’t know where to start.
Yup, that’s overwhelm.
Trust me when I say, I’ve been there. In fact, I still get that feeling sometimes, especially if we are in the middle of building new courses and launching new products.
So this video shared with you my 3 steps to conquor overwhelm.
Step 1: Write it ALL down.
ALL of it!! Everything going on in your head, every little thing that you can think of, all those things that you’ve been thinking that you need to do. Write it all down on a big sheet of paper.
Family stuff, work stuff, business stuff… all of it.
It doesn’t need to be in any order, it just needs to be out of your head. You may need a big sheet of paper!
Step 2: Organise it into groups and lists.
Separate all of those many jobs into groups, lists of things that go together. For example you might have an around the house list, and all of those jobs go on there. You might have a business list, and everything to do with business building can go in there.
This way you know how much you have to do in each area, and it becomes much easier to allocate your time.
If it’s business building time, then you pull out the business list and focus just on those items.
Step 3: Break things down in TINY little steps.
Go through your list and make sure that everything is broken down into tiny little steps. For example, if “Write a course” is on your to-do list… then it’s time to break that baby down.
Start by giving it it’s own list. And then break down the steps you need to do to write that course. It’s ok if you don’t know all the steps to start with, just begin with what you do know.
Your list might start with “research plug-ins” “choose a title” “outline modules”…
The smaller each thing on your to do list, the easier they are to do.
It means that when you sit down and look at your list, you can pick the first little thing and get rolling.
Let me know, how do you handle overwhelm? What strategies have helped you?
OMG Sam,
I love that book idea!!! Im so going to make one of those this weekend 🙂
I currently have 2 separate notebooks on the go and post it notes…. not the best idea
It has saved me countless times, I think it’s the only way that I know what I’m doing :p
Let me know how it goes for you.
